In an exclusive interview for ELLE magazine, Peaches Geldof has spoken for the first time about the day her mother, Paula Yates, died, her difficult past and her happiness with new husband, Tom Cohen, and baby Astala.
In the revealing and deeply moving interview, Peaches, 23, opens up about how having a child has begun to help her heal after losing her own mother.
Talking about the birth of Astala in April this year she says, 'His birth was like a rebirth for me, and I honestly never thought anything in my life would ever be good.'
She discusses losing Paula, when she was age 11. ‘I remember the day my mother died, and it’s still hard to talk about it. I just blocked it out.. I didn’t grieve. I didn’t cry at her funeral…I couldn't express anything because I was numb to it all.'
She also reveals why she isn't angry with her mother. ‘I don’t blame her, I’m not angry with her, I understand her… I honestly understand what she was going through.’
And she explains the party girl reputation she had in her teenage years: ‘I did experiment with drugs, I did get drunk and go to parties, but I was never that wild. I could have been, I could have let myself spiral but all the time I remembered what happened to my mum.’
