UPDATE: Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have finalised their divorce, one year after they famously 'conciously uncoupled'.

Sources report that, despite their amicable separation, the pair will be citing 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for their split.

They are also believed to be splitting their joint fortune of £194m equally, and sharing custody of their children Apple, 10, and Moses, eight.

It's happening: Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have separated.

The notoriously private couple have batted off constant speculation about the state of their relationship over the course of their 11-year marriage, but always held solid. Until now.

The split was confirmed today via a post on Goop.com entitled Conscious Uncoupling - which promptly caused the site to crash.

'It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,' ran the statement.

'We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.

'We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time.

'We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.

'Love, Gwyneth & Chris.'
