It's just over 18 months since Alessandro Michele took the helm at Gucci, and since then the storied Italian fashion house has gone from strength to strength, pumping out iconic pieces (those backless loafers) and setting a whole new trend agenda in the process.

But Michele's not stopping there - his next trick is a curveball campaign star in the form of British actress and all-round national treasure Vanessa Redgrave.

The 79 year-old stars in the brand's Cruise 2017 campaign, set in the beautiful gardens of Chatsworth House, home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. 

The images and accompanying short film, shot by Glen Luchford, show Redgrave resplendent in Gucci inside the grounds and interior of the historic estate.

Basically, if we could just fill this article with heart eye emojis, we would.

Redgrave is the latest in a lengthening list of famous older faces to front campaigns for major fashion houses. In 2015, French brands Celine chose writer Joan Didion to front its SS15 campaign, while Saint Laurent enlisted musician Joni Mitchell.
