Unicorns, those damned mythical creatures that refuse to return to whatever enchanted forest the came from, have finally reached one of the most glamorous red carpets: the Cannes Film Festival. Elle Fanning, who arrived for the debut of her latest film, Sofia Coppola's The Beguiled, wore a strapless Vivienne Westwood gown featuring a hand-painted unicorn on the train.

It's beautifully subtle–it kind of looks floral when you're just glancing quickly–but it adds a fun touch that's perfect for the 19-year-old actress. There are also illustrations of a shooting star named Elle, hearts, and the planet Gaia all in pink.

Apparently, the unicorn was Elle's idea and is a nod to Westwood's Birds of Paradise dresses from her Spring 2005 collection. The corseted piece also took design inspiration from 17th and 18th century salon culture. It took 10 people to make the dress, which took more than 300 hours over 10 days to finish by hand.
