With Margot Robbie revealed as Chanel's latest ambassador, it was only fitting that she wear the eponymous fashion house to the Oscars 2018.

Donning this corset-bodiced, tulip-skirted crisp white Chanel dress, there was a risk that she might have failed to satisfy expectations for an Academy Awards showstopper, but thankfully the embellishment draped across her shoulders gave the audience that little bit of added sparkle.

Allowing the dress to stand on its own, her make-up look was kept relatively simple, using all Chanel products, such as the ultra hydrating Rouge Coco Chanel lipstick in '432 Cécile.'

Margot wasn't the only celebrity to sport a white gown for this year's Oscars ceremony though. Quite often we see ribbons of white wending their way through the red carpet arrivals, but it was clear at the 2018 Academy Awards that bold, crisp white was one of the key trends.

Laura Dern echoed Margot's preference for a slinkier red carpet look, opting for this statuesque silhouette in white Calvin Klein.

By far the most bridal dress of the evening belonged to Camila Alves. Her gown's V-shaped corset was immediately recognisable as one of Vivienne Westwood's. The dress brought an element of fun to the table with the handkerchief skirt stopping short to reveal layers of tulle.

Following suit, Mary J Blige wore a glittering white dress, swathed across her body in a Grecian goddess style.

Keeping up appearances for the boys, though, Timothee Chalamet donned an all-white suit for the occasion too.
