Last night Germany took home the trophy and the accolade of being the world’s best football team at the World Cup final in Rio. The team triumphed in front of a stadium packed with German and Argentinian fans, alongside a fair few celebrities.
And yes, here at ELLE, we like football as much as the next person, well maybe not Rihanna.
She’s been live tweeting during a number of matches and was present and correct at the final last night. Her money was on Germany, she tweeted a picture of herself in a swimsuit photoshopped to look like the German flag ahead of the match saying ‘For my German boys’. She then proceeded to live Tweet her way through the match before topping the night off by partying with the German squad. ‘I touched the cup, held the cup, kissed the cup, took a selfie wit the cup!!! I meeeaan...... what is YO bucket list looking like bruh?’ Hmmm, no one likes a bragger Ri.
Gisele one-upped Rihanna, however, by delivering the World Cup trophy to the stadium in its very own monogrammed Louis Vuitton trunk.
Of her role in the closing ceremony she said, ‘It's a great honor to represent my country and the people of Brazil in tomorrow's celebration. It's beautiful to see how sport has the power to bring the world together. I'm so grateful to be part of this moment. Thank you all Brazilians who have welcomed the world with all their joy and loving spirit. #proudofbeingbrazilian @louisvuitton’ (sic).
The model joked, ‘Should I keep the trophy? Hahaha #worldcup’
Lucky for the German team she did her bit, presenting the golden cup ahead of the match dressed head-to-toe in Louis Vuitton, of course.
Shakira performed 'La La La' at the closing ceremony...
The singer was watched by David Beckham and his sons,
Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio,
There was a lot of celeb selfies going on in the Maracanã stadium. Ashton Kutcher watched the match alongside Gisele’s husband Tom Brady and his iPhone.
But the award for the most unlikely social duo from last night’s world cup – Rihanna and Jamie Oliver.
