The 8th of January marks the start of the 2016 Chinese New Year.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with what the Chinese New Year actually is, it celebrates the New Year based on a traditional lunar calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar, which is used in the majority of countries today (including China).

Every year is associated with one of the 12 signs of the Chinese Zodiac and this year will be represented by the monkey.

BRANDS FOR MONKEYS TO WEAR

The Monkey Girl Is Lively

Primary colours, animal motifs, clashing patterns and iridescent fabrics – you don't get much more lively than Gucci SS16. Monkeys are fun, animated and love to be the centre of attention – the much-loved maximalist look is sure to make you the focus and give you that attention you so often crave.

The Monkey Girl Is Self-Assured

Last fashion month, Dolce & Gabbana sent an army of models down the catwalk in a collection that paid homage to the history of the brand's homeland, Italy.

Not only were the girls emblazoned with Italian memorabilia and slogans, they were also taking selfies as they walked down the catwalk. For the self-assured Monkey, Dolce & Gabbana is your spirit-brand.

The Monkey Girl Is Innovative

Maison Margiela should be a firm fashion favourite for Monkeys with your like-minded innovative thinking.

Remember last season when Creative Director John Galliano sent a model down the catwalk wearing a plastic carrier bag as a top? Well, if one's run out of clean clothes to wear…

Need to carry a bag around but want your hands free? The Maison Margiela climbing-rope bag from this season is an accessory that Monkeys will love.

The Monkey Girl Is Mischievous

For when you're feeling a little bit cheeky, how about a playful Jeremy Scott number? With kitsch prints, fishnets and short hemlines, Jeremy Scott's SS16 collection is bold and flirty just like you.

The Monkey Girl Is Arrogant

The negative side to a monkeys personality? Monkeys can often be arrogant with a tendency to look down on others. When you're feeling this way inclined, the fashion-pack favourite Celine is the brand for you.

COLOURS FOR MONKEYS TO WEAR

Apparently a Monkeys lucky colours are white, gold and blue so Raf Simons's final Dior collection for SS16 would be perfect for you.

On the other hand Olympia Le-Tan's collection should probably be avoided, as red and pink are both very unlucky colours for Monkeys.

SS16 saw a reoccurring theme of red/white/blue colour-combos from brands including Giorgio Armani, Marc Jacobs, Chanel and Victoria Beckham – only wear these collections if you're prepared to take a risk. Don't say we didn't warn you...
