Nicholas Kirkwood has added the ELLE Style Award for Accessory Designer of the Year 2013 to his recent trophy haul. It was presented to him by actress and fan Rosamund Pike.
The Central Saint Martins and Cordwainers alumnus, whose shoes regularly grace the feet of A-listers such as Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Miranda Kerr, Elle Fanning and Freida Pinto, adds the accolade to the prestigious British Fashion Award that he scooped in December.
So, what is it about Kirkwood? Well, aside from his tireless creativity (not only does he design under his own name but he helms the footwear division of Pollini and, for spring/summer 2013, collaborated on the catwalk collections of Erdem and Peter Pilotto), his shoes are actually comfortable to wear.
'Some girls will prioritise aesthetics over comfort and some shoes are literally cab-to-red-carpet affairs, he has said. There are things I do to make the shoe more comfortable though. I'm not a torturer!'
