Wren
Alexa Chung may have left us to go Stateside but there’s no denying her style icon status, so when we heard that she had modelled for the look book of US label Wren, we knew we should sit up and take notice.
Wren founder Melissa Coker’s journey into the world of fashion was a happy accident. She really wanted to work in film but was struggling to find work in the industry when a friend told her that Helmut Lang was looking for interns. She got the job, but later tried her hand at journalism, writing for W and Vogue amongst others, before she turned her attention back to design and created her own line.
Established in 2007, the label is named after Jenny Wren, a character in Charles Dicken’s ‘Our Mutual Friend’ who makes dresses for dolls. The label has developed a cult status amongst those in the know across the pond and is slowly but surely developing a following over here too – we’re sure that roping in Alexa will help fast-track its popularity. Michelle Williams, Keira Knightly, Reese Witherspoon and Katie Holmes are all counted as fans, and one look at the collection is enough to show you why – combining laid-back California style with rock-chick cool, the label’s pieces are irresistible and effortless to wear. Autumns’ range offers up right-on-trend woollen checks, slouchy blazers and easy mini-skirts, while the much-publicised Holiday collection, modelled by Chung and her best friend Tenessee Williams (lead singer of The Like) showcases the coolest of party dresses. We just can’t get enough.
Wren is available at KJ’s Laundry and Joseph.
