Thread Social

The majority of us probably don’t equate bridesmaid’s dresses with elegance and style, but in the case of Thread Social, that’s exactly where the label’s roots lie.

The ladies behind the New York label that’s currently winning over British fashion fans by the truckload are Beth Blake and Melissa Akey. Both trained as graphic designers, and Beth started out with a stint in PR for Chanel and as an accessories editor for Vogue before turning her hand to freelance styling. In despair at being unable to find a suitable dress for her sister's wedding, she launched Thread which has been helping blushing bridesmaids look fabulous ever since.

In 2005 she joined forces with Melissa who had been helping with the launch of the Image Studio, Barney’s personal shopping service for cosmetics. Before long, knowing how hard it is for a girl to find the perfect dress, they hit upon the idea of making our lives just a little bit easier by launching a brand new label – Thread Social.

With a focus on fantastic frocks for every possible social occasion, the girls set about using their expert experience to combine the perfect fit and comfort with fashion forward style. The result? A collection for stylish girls-on-the-go, combining classic shapes with feminine touches with a distinctly New York feel – think Sex and the City meets Gossip Girl, their tuxedo bib front dress and ruffle front silk shifts are quietly cool and to die for. Their autumn collection sees them branch out in mannish tailoring, so as well as the perfect little black dress you can snap up slouchy trousers, cosy knits and gently ruffled blouses.

The new collection will be hitting Net-A-Porter throughout September.
