We spoke to the designer

J.W. Anderson has collaborated with English heritage label Sunspel London on a capsule collection of five gymslip-inspired pieces.

The 28-year-old London designer has been Creative Director at Sunspel since 2011.

But, as one of the hottest young designers working in fashion today, and the beneficiary of investment from industry powerhouse LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, this collection will be his last for the beautiful basics brand.

Who is the Sunspel girl and how does she differ to the J.W. Anderson girl?

'I approach them in the same way, other than in how Sunspel reflects its heritage - it's more stripped back and is about the foundations of clothing.'

If you had to pick a sound-track that best described both, what would the songs be?

'The J.W. Anderson girl: Eisbar by Grauzone. The Sunspel girl: There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, by The Smiths.'

Describe your new collection for Sunspel in five words.

'Modern, essential, casual, deconstructed, comfortable.'

The capsule collection of hand-made-in-England skirts, dresses and sweaters was launched at a party last night at the new Sunspel women's store on Redchurch Street.
