Here at ELLE HQ, we love a good selfie. So much so, we’ve even gone and installed a photo booth in our office (it has a wind machine, FYI).

It seems we’re not the only ones who love a good self-portrait, as the term ‘selfie’ has just been announced as the Oxford English Dictionary’s word of the year.

Defined by the OED as ‘a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website’, the word’s use has increased by 17,000% in the past year, according to research. (We like to think ELLE has contributed to at least 15,000% of that rise.)

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to go throw some shapes in the #ELLEphotobooth – stay tuned for the results…
