Locate your funny bone now: the British Fashion Council has this morning announced comedian (aka Mr Lara Stone) David Walliams as the host of this year’s British Fashion Awards.

And you don't need us to tell you this is going to be good. Walliams and the fashion industry have got form. His wife is, after all, a supermodel - and who could forget Kate Moss once offering to give him a 'gob job' for a packet of Quavers in aid of Comic Relief a few years back? (Oh, you did? Relive it below.)

But while seriousness isn't necessarily a sentiment you'd associate with him, Walliams is actually a fervent supporter of the British fashion industry, having sat on the London Collections: Men committee since its inception in June 2012.

‘I’m thrilled to have been asked to present this year’s British Fashion Awards,’ he said this morning. ‘It’s a wonderful way to recognise some of Britain’s best talent and a night not to be missed!’

Adds Caroline Rush, CEO British Fashion Council: 'It’s an honour to welcome David Walliams to the stage, a man behind one of Britain’s best loved characters, whose achievements and influence is far reaching, and whose charitable efforts and contributions to so many fields have been awarded by numerous landmark accolades and awards. A fantastic ambassador for the UK, it’s with great pleasure we can announce that David is able to join us as this year’s host for the British Fashion Awards.'

The event, billed as the UK's equivalent of the fashion Oscars, will be held at the Coliseum in London on 2 December - and tickets are on sale now.
