The New York City Ballet - a favourite with Big Apple elite such as Sarah Jessica Parker (who is the company's Vice Chair), Anne Hathaway and model Doutzen Kroes – is tapping in to the fashion industry for its new season.

The Ballet's 2014 gala opening night will feature three world-premiere ballets, each of which has been costumed by a different designer – two of whom are Brits.

Mary Katrantzou has worked with the company's newly named Resident Choreographer Justin Peck, while Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton has worked in collaboration with British choreographer Liam Scarlett and Thom Browne will costume the debut work by NYCB corps de ballet member Troy Schumacher.

The night will also feature two established works: Peter Martins’ 2001 work Morgen, with all-new costumes by Carolina Herrera and Christopher Wheeldon’s This Bitter Earth, featuring designs by Valentino Garavani.

The one-time-only gala evening will take place on Tuesday, 23 September 2014, and open the New York City Ballet's four-week Fall Season at the Lincoln Center.
