Samantha Cameron has taken Victoria Coren’s two-bag theory (read it in the October issue of ELLE), and raised her a bag.

Yesterday, the Smythson creative consultant was spotted doing the school run carrying not one, not two, but three Smythson beauties: the Tall Tote and Tote from the label’s Chameleon collection, at £595 each, along with the £495 Crossbody Clutch in Dove Grey.

‘I think we all have a clutch-bag self and a holdall self,’ mused Coren in her exclusive ELLE column. ‘The clutch-bag version is our shiny hair and easy manner, our best stories and wittiest asides.

‘The holdall self is opened up for close friends and life partners, with all its tears and fears, half-eaten mints and broken biros. (Although, if we have any sense, even that’s not visible all the time.)’

Take heart, ladies: Mr Cameron might make his own artisanal bread, but his wife is as prone to disorganisation as the rest of us.
