Liberty celebrates 30 years of the Hermès Birkin bag

In a first ever for London, the world-famous department store is playing surrogate home to an incredible collection of rare, vintage Hermès pieces, including the very first ever Birkin bag, made for Jane Birkin herself.

The private collection, which belongs to Parisian vintage boutique owner, Catherine B, has already attracted the attention of Rhianna, who apparently wants to buy the original Birkin. Describing her much-loved collection as ‘her babies’, Catherine was adamant no price would ever be enough to temp her to part with the beloved bag.

If you’re feeling flush head to the third floor where head vintage buyer for Liberty (and star of the BBC documentary Liberty of London), Stelios Hawa, has curated a special selection of vintage Hermès that is on sale now.

Our favourite pieces? A red lambkin leather gloves with a silk scarf trim and a Kelly bag in ‘rouge braise’ from 1994.
