It's been a long time coming but today Mulberry has officially announced its new creative director. Johnny Coca, currently the accessories design director at Céline, will  offically join the British fashion house in July next year. With a beat that included leather goods, shoes, jewellery and sunglasses at Céline, he is the man responsible for  Instagram superstars like skater shoes and the Trapeze bag – so we fully expect him to bring his inimitable magic to Mulberry. Johnny is one of a clutch of designers to be linked to Mulberry following Emma Hill's departure last year. Ex-Chloé designer Hannah MacGibbon, Simone Rocha, Sophie Hulme and Issa's Blue Farrier have all been connected to the role in recent months, but we think that Johnny is the right man for the job .

“I very much look forward to joining Mulberry as their new creative director and to leading a new design direction at one of the very best British brands”, the designer said today. He added that he will relocate to London for the role. The designer was born in Seville to Spanish parents and after moving to France studied art, architecture and design at the École des Beaux-Arts and École Boulle in Paris.

“We are delighted that Johnny is joining us", Mulberry CEO Godfrey Davis added. "He has a wealth of international luxury and fashion experience that will help us bring new energy and innovation to Mulberry.”

Bring on July 2015.
