At the Les Copains Milan Fashion Week show this morning it’s not just the clothes that will prompt whispers in the audience.

News has broken that the Italian label’s creative director Alessandro Dell’Acqua is to leave the brand known for its luxurious knitwear. After three seasons Dell’Acqua’s contract has come to an end – and there is no sign of a renewal.

A source speaking to WWD revealed that Dell’Acqua was only partially involved in the design of the spring/summer 2014 collection to be presented today.

Dell’Acqua’s appointment at Les Copains, announced back in February 2012, was heralded as a fashion comeback for the designer, who had lost the rights to his eponymous label in 2009 and parted ways with Brioni two years later.

It’s not clear whether Dell’Acqua’s decision to leave Les Copains was prompted by a recent restructuring at the label’s parent company BVM SpA at the hands of new chief executive officer, Luca Bertolini.
