UPDATE: After months and months – and months – of conjecture on the subject, Gisele has confirmed her retirement from catwalk modelling.

It had been widely speculated for some time that the model was on the cusp of retiring from the runway but in an interview with Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo, she finally confirmed it. Bundchen is quoted as saying: "Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop… I respect my body, it's a privilege to be able to stop. I don't see how to continue modelling on the catwalk."

And the model officially said goodbye to the runway last night as she walked her final show for lingerie brand Colcci in Brazil, watched from the front row by her husband Tom Brady and her parents. Indeed, the evening was an emotional one for the couple, who shared a number of pictures on their social media accounts to commemorate the model's last catwalk show.

While Gisele posted a throwback snap of herself aged 14 about to embark on her first catwak show, husband Tom Brady shared a touching note on his Instagram dedicated to his model wife.

However, despite hanging up her heels on the catwalk, Gisele is far from retiring from the word of modelling, per se. Speaking in the same interview, she revealed that the move away from the runway would see her embark on other projects: ‘Stopping will leave room for other projects I have for myself,’ she said.

Rumour has it that Gisele Bündchen is set to retire from the catwalk next month - but fear not, the 34-year-old model isn't about to quit modelling entirely.

Having started her runway career nearly 20 years ago, the world’s highest paid model is, according to Brazilian publication Moda Estadão, reportedly set to hang up her heels at São Paulo Fashion Week in April - where she is believed to be walking her final show for Colcci.

Although Gisele hasn't appeared as often on the catwalk in recent years, she did make a high profile appearance at the in Paris last September. And if the rumours prove to be true, it would be a fitting end to the Brazilian model’s catwalk career to walk for Colcci, as she has long been the face of the brand.

But rumours like these have dogged the good name of Gisele before - and look how they turned out.
