One of Britains (not to mention ELLEs) favourite photogrpahers, David Bailey, will be opening the doors to his biggest exhibition to date at the National Portrait Gallery on 6 February.
Bailey's Stardust (the name reflects the notion that we are all made from, and return to, stardust), will be sponsored by HUGO BOSS and is Bailey's biggest ever collection of works.
With over 250 portraits, hand picked by Bailey himself from an astounding career that has spanned more than half a century, it will also be one of the gallery's largest scale exhibitions to date. Iconic images will hang alongside many lesser-known portraits; gritty portrayals of The Rolling Stones and intimate images of Baileys long-time muse Jean Shrimpton are contrasted with extraordinary documentary photographs from the photographers expedition to Papua New Guinea in 1974, and touching images of those devastated by the famine in east Africa, taken in support of the Band Aid charity in 1985.
Over the last five decades, Bailey has shot actors, writers, musicians, politicians, filmmakers, models, artists and unknown but equally as captivating people on his many travels. Baileys Stardust will run from 6 February 1 June 2014 in the National Portrait Gallery.
