After expanding his popular Nude Collection last year, Christian Louboutin just announced he's adding a ballet slipper flat to the lineup in seven skin tones ranging from fair to chestnut. This is a big deal mostly because the word ‘nude’ has long been the fashion and beauty world’s equivalent of The Dress

Exactly what colour IS nude? And whose nude are we talking about anyway? Foundation, concealer, bras, knickers, pantyhose, slipdresses and emojis are all things that one theoretically would like to have in an option that matches one’s skin tone. Apple has gotten the memo, as have an increasing number of makeup brands. And even manufacturers of real actual ballet slippers

But Christian Louboutin is arguably the first major maker of nude things in fashion to address the fact that (hello!) women come in all colour ways and (hoh!) have money to spend on shoes and clothes. The fact that he continually ramps up the offerings, year after year, only bolsters that idea. The expanded version of the Nude range, which first launched in 2013, hits stores this month. Here's hoping someone will have the genius idea to produce a lace bra in a silky shade of brown next.
