Remark 4 September in your diary now: it’s officially been designated Elie Tahari Day in NYC.

The honour has been bestowed upon the designer by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the City of New York to mark his incredible 40-year career. Joan Rivers will attend a ceremony at Tahari’s pop-up shop at 510 Fifth Avenue to kick off the celebrations, WWD reports.

They’ll continue at Tahari’s NYFW show on 10 September where Elie Tahari Edition 1974, a capsule collection featuring updates on the designer’s signature silhouettes, will be shown on the runway. The designer is giving two lucky winners (US-based, alas), the chance to attend via a Facebook raffle.

And the giving doesn’t stop there.

Tahari has pledged $35,000 to Save the Garment Center, a charity dedicated to keeping fashion jobs in New York. Not a bad legacy... Though here’s to another 40 years yet.
