As we reflect on the show’s cultural contribution, here are 5 life lessons from ANTM:

1. When in doubt, just smize

The term ‘smizing’, meaning to smile with your eyes, was popularised by Banks. The goal is to squint your eyes and convey simmering emotions with an intense gaze.

2. If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything

Season 1’s diva Robin Manning repeated this motto at every opportunity. It became even more poignant for her when she was asked to pose nude. Her morals prevailed, and she quit the competition.

3. Have some perspective

When Brittany Hatch threw a tantrum after being back late from her go-sees, Natasha Gal offered some advice.

4. Embrace other cultures

Whether they were imitating Thai dancing, breaking china at Japanese tea ceremonies or blacking up in Hawaii, the girls always immersed themselves in the cultures of the new countries they visited.

5. ‘Stand up and take control of your destiny’
When Tiffany Richardson scoffed after being eliminated, Banks taught us all a lesson about perseverance.

The finale of season 22, airing on 4th December, will be the last ever episode of the show.
