The fashion world has gone a bit auction crazy of late, what with Suzy Menkes’ designer vintage auction at Christie’s and everything from Diana, Princess of Wales’ dresses to David Bowie’s jacket going under the hammer over at Kerry Taylor Auctions.

Now, there’s a much bigger lot muscling in on the action: Gianni Versace’s iconic Miami mansion, Casa Casuarina.

The 23,000-square-foot, 10-bedroom mansion in South Beach, Florida – outside which Gianni was fatally shot in 1997 – has been on the market for over a year and, despite having its price slashed three times, has failed to attract a buyer.

It has operated as a boutique hotel for the past three years under current owner Peter Loftin, who bought it directly from Donatella Versace, and still includes the lavish interiors that Gianni famously installed – among them, ornate frescos and fountains, 24-carat gold finishes and that trophy pool, 54-foot in length and studded with a Versace Medusa head in mosaic.

Intrigued? Us too. Fisher Auction Company is handling the sale, which is scheduled for 17 September. Just in case you want to take a look at their website. And, you know, cross your fingers that a lottery win befalls you in the next couple of months
