Gucci is about to make history by staging the first fashion show to ever take place in the historic Westminster Abbey.

The iconic Italian brand will head to London on June 2 to present its Crusie 2017 show by Creative Director Alessandro Michele in the building’s Cloisters, which were originally used by monks for meditation and exercise.

Cruise, an inter-season collection of ready-to-wear that fills the gap between autumn/winter and spring/summer, is becoming a more and more prominent feature of major fashion houses, with many staging extravagant shows in beautiful locations.

Last year Louis Vuitton decamped to Bob Hope’s futuristic Palm Springs mansion, while Chanel will head to Havana, Cuba for its bound-to-be-spectacular Cruise 2017 show on May 3.

Gucci is currently enjoying something of a renaissance under the leadership of Michele, who took the helm in January 2015 following the surprise departure of Frida Giannini.

He has worked at the brand in various design positions since being recruited by former creative director Tom Ford in 2002.
