Rihanna closed out day two of New York Fashion Week tonight by showing her new sportswear collection FentyxPuma. Let's discuss!
1) It Was Surprisingly Sober, And Goth
Sitting down, watching smoke rise on a runway decorated with tall white trees, I was expecting the somber, funereal music scoring to give way to a slamming soundtrack. Rihanna has just released a platinum-selling album and all I wanted to see were the models work, work, work, work, work, work like her new single with Drake demands. And maybe do a little dutty wine too.
But instead, the models played it fairly straight, storming the catwalk like an army of nineties goth kids in black, grey and white shirt dresses; baggy, slightly deconstructed sweaters; logo tees; and sporty ankle booties —looks that were classic Riri off-duty.
2) Naomi Campbell, Chris Rock and the Hadids Were There
Considering that Kanye West kicked off NYFW with his starry, Kardashian-full FROW on day one, and Rihanna followed up with a buzzy show on day two, does that mean we can cross our fingers and hope for a Beyoncé appearance on day three? One can only hope? Gigi and Bella Hadid closed out Rihanna’s show, while Naomi Campbell, Foxy Brown and Chris Rock sat in the audience, effectively setting our people-watching expectations very high for the rest of the week.
2) The bob!
Yes, the models were wearing black lips. But the big beauty news from this runway is that Rihanna now has a slick, polished, very un-Goth-like bob. And it works.
