Joseph Altuzarra, the man behind designer label Altuzarra, has been announced as the 2013-2014 U.S winner of the Woolmark prize beating ten other finalists including Timo Weiland and Bibhu Mohapatra.
This victory, however, is just the first round in the competition; now Parisian born Altuzarra will join with four other finalists from Europe, India, Asia and Australia to compete for the impressive prize of $100,00 Australian dollars (£61,857). And the competition will be stiff: in for Europe is Sibling, another ELLE fave.
To take home the cash and the accolade, the five designers have to showcase their skills and go head-to-head in designing a capsule collection in merino wool.
If Altuzarra wins, his creations will be sold globally in stores such as Harvey Nichols, Saks Fifth Avenue, 10 Corso Como, Joyce and David Jones. And, after years of interning and honing his skills at labels such as Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler, we reckon he could have just what it takes.
