We're used to seeing celebrities picking up honorary degrees and now fashion is hitting the high grades, with a slew of designers newly being recognised for their contributions to the industry.

Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen (and the mastermind behind that wedding dress) will pick up her honorary fellowship from University of the Arts London – along with celebrated milliner Stephen Jones – in front of graduating students at Central St Martins, where both studied.

Anne Smith, Dean of the School of Fashion and Textiles, highlighted the impact Burton and Jones have had on the fashion industry, praising the way in which they have ‘both profoundly shaped the industry they work in, and won enormous international success while remaining true to their creative vision and values'.

Also being recognised is the renowned tailor Ozwald Boeteng, who will be presented with an honorary doctorate at London’s College of Fashion’s graduation ceremony.

Frances Corner, Head of London College of Fashion and Pro Vice-Chancellor of UAL, praised Boateng for pushing boundaries within his field and for contributing to the ‘reinvigoration of British tailoring'.

UAL’s eight graduation ceremonies take place in the Royal Festival Hall from 15 to 18 July 2013, and will be streamed live on UAL’s website. Go to arts.ac.uk on the day to watch.
