The plane that was carrying Vittorio Missoni has been found.

The aircraft, which disappeared on 4 January with the fashion family scion, his partner Maurizia Castiglioni, two friends and a pilot and co-pilot onboard, has been located just off the coast of Venezuela by a search ship.

Decisions are now being made as to how to proceed.

In a statement, the families jointly thanked those involved for their ‘commitment’ to the search.

‘The families thank the Venezuelan government and the Italian government for the effort in having made this search possible,’ it reads. ‘They are confident that the investigation will follow through to the ascertainment of the causes and the responsibility for the accident.’

A bag believed to belong to one of the passengers was recovered in February.
