Peter Copping is leaving Oscar de la Renta, where he served as creative director for just under two years.

Copping assumed the role in November 2014, following the passing of the line's namesake founder. Previously, Copping served as creative director for Nina Ricci in Paris.

"After almost two years at Oscar de la Renta, personal circumstances require me to return to Europe," Copping said in a statement. "I have loved my time in New York where I hope to return at some point in the future."

Oscar de la Renta's CEO Alex Bolen added, "We have always been in the business of creating beautiful clothes. And two of our greatest assets are our design studio and atelier. Our team will continue to work on next season's collection with a keen focus on the level of sophistication and craftsmanship that are the hallmarks of the house. We wish Peter well in his future endeavors."

No replacement has been named, but Business of Fashion hints that Monse designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, who spent a combined 19 years working at Oscar de la Renta (Kim as studio director, Garcia as senior designer) could return. Their one-year-old label has garnered much critical acclaim and is already a red carpet favorite of fashion-forward celebs.
