It wasn't going to be long before Zayn Malik was to make his designing debut and it appears Donatella has found her next man to take on Versus Versace – the younger, cooler line. And we called it.
When ELLE's Lena De Casparis interviewed Zayn for our September issue it seemed like something was brewing in the pipeline between the two: "When it comes to designer Zayn 'loves' Versace. 'Just because she's so cool, and so are the clothes. She sends me everything.' Surely, he's past getting excited about being sent stuff for free? 'Nah, when Versace sends you a bath robe, it's really sick.' I can see his point.
Donatella, who has worked personally with Zayn, later tell me: 'I love his willingness to take risks. When he put on his Versace custom-made suit with armour for the Met Gala, I knew it was a real fashion moment. It takes someone with Zayn's confidence and self-belief to make it happen. He is talented and I love talents: he has my eyes on him.'"
With girlfriend Gigi fronting the Versace campaigns and now Zayn on board in a designer capacity is this is the ultimate couple collaboration?
The collection to be aptly named ZAYN X VERSUS will debut in May 2017 for sale in Versus stores worldwide and on versusversace.com, with a percentage of the profits from the collection to be donated to charity.
Expect leather trousers and a lot of 'tude.
