has been appointed artistic director of BOSS Womenswear.

The feted NY designer – who shot to fame worldwide when Michelle Obama wore one of his creations for her husband’s inauguration ball in 2009, barely two years after he established his label – will oversee the team at the HUGO BOSS headquarters in Metzingen, Germany, and also open a design studio in New York as part of the newly-established role.

And fans of the Wu label can breathe easy – he’ll continue to head up that, too.

Says Wu of the appointment: ‘I have long been a fan of HUGO BOSS’ vast tradition and lineage in extraordinary tailoring. With the state-of-the-art facilities that are unique to the HUGO BOSS design labs, I plan to develop a strong, feminine womenswear collection that reciprocates the brand’s authority in menswear.’

‘We are absolutely delighted to have an outstanding talent like Jason Wu on board,’ said Claus Dietrich Lahrs, CEO of HUGO BOSS, in a statement issued today. ‘This will generate a powerful and creative statement for BOSS Womenswear and show our commitment to focus even more on the female side of the brand.’

Wu will get into his BOSS with the pre-fall 2014 collection, before sending his first mainline BOSS collection down the runway during the New York autumn/winter 2014 shows in February 2014.
