Fashion history: It gets by with a little help from Chanel.
At least, that's the case with an upcoming Parisian museum that will debut as France's first permanent fashion museum. How it took so long in the land of fashion greats such as Christian Lacroix, Christian Louboutin and, of course, Coco Chanel, we're not sure. But we certainly are pleased. Chanel is partnering with Paris to finance the construction of the new space inside the Palais Galliera, with a €5.7 million euro ($6 million) donation, according to WWD.
The Palais Galleria is already considered the Fashion Museum of Paris, but currently only displays temporary exhibits. The new 7,211-square-foot area will have a year-round exhibit dedicated to fashion's history from the 18th century to today, plus a learning workshop and a bookstore, according to a press release.
"This initiative represents a lasting commitment to creation and to the strength of Paris, which are at the heart of Chanel's business," said Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel Fashion, in a statement. "Supporting an institution like the Palais Galliera is part of our mission to bring fashion history to life."

The city is hoping the partnership will draw visitors—both French and international—to Paris, which experienced a sharp decline in tourism in 2016 after militant attacks, floods and strikes.
"The city of Paris is proud to be able to open this exceptional space to Parisians and visitors from all over the world," said Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, in a statement. "I would like to thank the House of Chanel for proving once again that Paris is the home of fashion."
The Palais Galliera, which was built in 1894, is planning upcoming exhibitions such as an homage to fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga (March 8 to July 16) and an exhibition of singer Dalida's wardrobe (April 27 to August 13). Overall the Palais Galliera's archives comprise of a total of 200,000 pieces.
Translation: Once the fashion museum is completed, there will be style galore to feast the eyes on.
