Watching an indie rock concert in a plush luxury fashion boutique seems incongruous. Yet, since launching his Burberry Acoustic initiative in 2010 (a non-commercial project that gives new bands a platform), live music and Christopher Bailey's mega-brand go hand-in-hand.
For those who got goose-bumps watching the live stream of Tom Odell performing at the show, seeing the Kaiser Chiefs play live at the Regent Street flagship store last night was even more thrilling. It all felt very LA as the band kicked off in the sleek heritage building and lead singer Ricky Wilson leapt from the stage to join the throngs of fashionable music fans, making it a truly intimate experience.
Champagne was free flowing, canapés of burger sliders and mini quiches were plentiful, and famous faces such as Jack Whitehall and Edie Campbell mingled amongst the Burberry-clad crowd. The store itself, already part-innovation hub, part-boutique, can now add sleek event space to its boasting rights.
Having already hosted live performances by British Burberry Acoustic musicians Jake Bugg, Roo Panes and Ren Harvieu, last night marked the official launch of Live at 121 Regent Street, a series of ticketed in-store gigs.
