Azzedine Alaïa has made an exciting surprise announcement.

The legendary designer will show his first couture collection in Paris this July after a six year break.

Alaïa is a longtime maverick in the fashion world, shunning the traditional show schedule in favour of off-calendar events. He presents collections on his own creative clock, hosting intimate unveiling soirees in his Rue de Moussey headquarters.

His Spring 2017 prêt-à-porter show was held a month after fashion month's conclusion in September 2016. Small shows in the atelier are a tradition for Azzedine, who started presenting couture-only collections in his original studio.

In 1981, he began to also design ready-to-wear. After the death of his sister in the mid '90s, he disappeared from the fashion industry and stopped showing on a regular schedule altogether.

As of yet, there's no word on why he's decided return to Paris Couture Week, but his show on July 5th is guaranteed to be a key highlight of the gown-filled season.
