Lindsey Wixson has retired from modelling, aged 23.

The Chanel muse - who announced the news on Instagram - instead wants to pursue a career in ceramics.

Wixosn's decision was prompted after she tore a tendon in her leg, for which she has received medical attention.

'To all my fashion fans, I am sad to inform you that my injury has put me in a position to retire from this high heel business,' she said. 'I have an artistic side that wants to shine through. I feel that this disablility [sic] has come to me with a purpose. To show me that I must carry on. This industry has brought me so much and I am grateful for the lessons I have learned. Now more than ever I feel it is important to listen to my body and the changing times of this industry and peacefully try to move on.'

She asked her fans to follow her new project on Instagram @wixsondesign, which so far features images of sculptured kitchenware presumably designed by the model herself.

Wixson was scouted by Steven Meisel when she was just 15-years-old and she's since worked for brands including Chanel, Dior, Prada, Alexander McQueen and Versace.

Known for her gap tooth and bee-stung lips, she will doubtlessly be missed among the industry.
