Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz is the latest fashion industry stalwart to show his support for John Galliano. According to Fashionista.com, Elbaz was interviewed by Harper’s Bazaar US editor, Glenda Bailey, at a masterclass yesterday and was asked his opinion about how the fashion industry has responded to Galliano following his dismissal from Dior.

Ever the diplomat, Elbaz replied, ‘It’s a shame we all have a very short memory. So all I want to say about that issue is, the bible – and I’m not a religious guy in that sense, whether it’s Islam, Judaism, Christianity – is all about forgiveness. So I hope the world will forgive him.’

Elbaz is not the first to come out in support of Galliano in recent months. At the request of Anna Wintour, Oscar de la Renta welcomed the designer into his studio in the run up to New York Fashion Week, while Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana released a statement saying, ‘We wish John the best of luck with his return to fashion. We've always been admirers of his flamboyant talent. He has been missed from the fashion scene these two years and we can’t wait to see the collection with Oscar de la Renta.’
