The American fashion industrys most glittering awards ceremony is in sight, and now that the nominees have been announced the event is beginning to take shape.
Last night the Councils president Diane Von Furstenberg made the announcements in New York together with Nadja Swarovski, whose company sponsors the event.
The nominees for the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year award will go to Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler. All three have won the award previously, on consecutive years since 2010.
New nominee in the Womens Accessories category is Phillip Lim, who will compete against Proenza Schoulers Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez, and Alexander Wang again both labels have won the award before, as they continue to churn out bags and shoes that capture the zeitgeist of each season.
The award that garners most interest due to its rich financial reward is the Emerging Talent Award. This years hopefuls include Sunos Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis, ELLE one-to-watch Creatures of the Wind designed by Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters, and Cushnie et Ochs Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, who have been dressing all the most toned supermodel bodies for the red carpet of late.
And finally there are the honorary awards, which are always announced in advance of the event: Vera Wang will take home the Lifetime achievement award, and a deserving Riccardo Tisci who seems have taken up residence in the fashion headlines takes home the International Award. Style.coms Editor At Large will take home the Media Award, and Oscar de la Renta wins the Founders Award.
The awards take place on June 3 at the Lincoln Centre, New York
