Burberry and Christopher Bailey are two names that have worked hand-in-hand for a considerable amount of time - 17 years to be exact.

But after almost two decades at the house and 3 years as chief creative officer, Bailey has decided to leave Burberry. Hailed as the man who made the brand relevant again, transforming the house into a worldwide phenomenon and boosting their sales by an innumerate percentage, this is big fashion news.

Burberry said in a statement Mr Bailey had been a driving force behind its transformation, taking it from a 'small licensed outerwear business to become one of the world's largest and most admired global luxury brands'.

Bailey catapulted Burberry into the major fashion sphere through his elevated designs, show stopping catwalk productions and ensuring he had the biggest names in fashion starring in his campaigns.

The news doesn't come as huge surprise to industry insiders. Rumours were flying this season that Phoebe Philo of Céline was poised in the wings to take over the role but no predecessor has been announced as of yet.
