Florence Welch made a great night for British music a great night for British fashion, too, as she stepped out at last night’s NME Awards in Christopher Kane.

The electric blue velvet shawl top dress, from the designer’s pre-fall 2013 collection, is the first Kane piece the singer has worn. But something tells us it won’t be the last.

Not only did the maxi design - accessorised with chunky cocktail rings by NY-based jewellery label Sorellina - fit perfectly with her own distinctive style but it was lucky for her too: she scooped Best Solo Artist for the second year running.

Ever modest, on collecting the award she said: 'I really didn’t expect to get this again, especially because it’s debatable whether I’m a solo artist. Thanks to my band – it really is a collaborative thing.'

She also won Best Dancefloor Anthem for her Calvin Harris collaboration Sweet Nothing.

In other red carpet news, Aluna George was a highlight in an itsy-bitsy LWD from ’s resort collection.
