The chief trend blossoming on the Paris catwalks, as of yesterday, is floral-inspired.
At Dior, Raf Simons staged an immaculate collection behind mirrored walls in the Jardin des Tuileries, where models emerged from the ground and paraded around Diors garden path of greenery, the clothes themselves providing the floral arrangements in ever more exquisite detail, culminating in multiple layers of cascading flower embroideries.
At Giambattista Valli, dreamy fairytale dresses appeared to have been made entirely out of flowerbeds. In fact, these flowers were made from miniscule feathers and looked as light as thistledown.
Alexis Mabille also went flower mad at least, on his all-pink set, where giant urns sprouted pink blooms.
If anything, the spring / summer 2013 couture season is gearing up to be one of the sweetest and most feminine on record. And the front row celebrities loved it, from Sigourney Weaver, Rosamund Pike and Jessica Alba at Dior, to Salma Hayek at Valli and Dita Von Teese at Alexis Mabille.
Florals next stop? The red carpet.
