McQueen cancels catwalk show

Intimate presentation to replace usual theatrics

Owing to Sarah Burton’s maternity leave, Alexander McQueen’s autumn/winter 2013 catwalk show is to be replaced by an intimate presentation.

The label’s creative director, who is expecting twins, will remain in London while the show – albeit a scaled-back one – will go on in Paris. Around 100 editors will be invited to the collection’s low-key unveiling on March 5.

Come spring/summer 2014 season it’ll be business as usual, a spokesperson for the label has confirmed, with McQueen reclaiming its traditional on-schedule slot of 7.30pm on Tuesday.

The absence of a McQueen catwalk extravaganza is not the only shake-up to the usual calendar. Hot on the heels of Chris Benz withdrawing from New York Fashion Week, Peter Som has followed suit, Fashionista reports today.

However it’s an addition, rather than a subtraction, causing a stir this side of the pond: Rihanna is set to make her designer debut with her much-hyped collection for River Island at London Fashion Week.
