Meet Jeanne Lanvin

Rare footage of the house founder

The house of Lanvin is well known and loved for its feminine, celebratory and uber-luxe cocktail dresses and show-stopping baubles. It’s become synonymous with its loveable Moroccan creative director, Alber Elbaz, but the original designer and founder of the house, Jeanne Lanvin was just as important a figure in the fashion world in her time.

These exclusive, recently discovered images of Jeanne Lanvin provide a glimpse into the last-minute preparations for a collection in the designer’s heyday. Inside 22 Faubourg Saint Honoré, the ever-fashionable Paris address, Jeanne is captured making the final adjustments to models ahead of the launch of her ‘Sorbier’, ‘Tubéreuse’ or ‘Azalée’ eveningwear designs.

Moving images of Jeanne Lanvin who lived from 1867 to 1946 are extremely rare – this one has only cropped up thanks to the digitalisation of cinematic archives by companies such as INA or Gaumont-Pathé – and they provide a mini portal back into a bygone era.
