The Rugby line will lose its stripes in the new year, said during its second quarter results reporting today.

The preppy spin-off brand will close its ecommerce operation and 14 stores worldwide, including its London outpost, on 2 February 2013.

Ralph Lauren approved a plan to halt Rugby trading ‘in order to focus resources on higher growth’, the brand said in a statement.

Since launching in 2004, the brand has drawn a following for its tweedy collegiate staples, monogrammed rugby shirts, varsity jackets, and some pretty quirky brand events too.
