Pharrell's unisex fragrance with Commes des Garçons, GIRL, will launch in the UK, at Dover Street Market on 1 September – and, in the lead-up to launch, the singer has been chatting up a storm about it.

As first reported in March, this is the first fragrance from Mr Cool himself, but adds to the much collaboration he has taken on over the years. Having partnerships with Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Adidas and Uniqlo in the bag, Pharrell prides himself in working with the best: ‘I work with all the masters because it allows me a crash course into not only who they are as people, but into their art form, and their craft,' he says. 'So that’s pretty cool.’

Created with Christian Astuguevieille, creative director of Comme des Garçons Parfums and Antoine Lie of Takasago, the fragrance features top notes of neroli, lavender and white pepper; middle notes of iris, styrax and violet; and base notes of vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood and sandalwood.

The bottle, logo and packaging have been designed by House + Holme and feature bold, cartoonish artwork by the artist Kaws, a friend of Williams’.

Asked by WWD why he embarked on a fragrance partnership in particular, the Happy and Get Lucky singer offered a philosophical response.

'For each of our senses there’s an art form: For ears there’s music, for your eyes there’s art, for your nose there’s fragrance, for your taste there is the culinary art, for feeling I say there is love.'
