There’s never a dull moment when Karl Lagerfeld’s around. We're yet to find the subject that he doesn't have a perfectly succinct opinion on.

But in New York this week, where he was shooting model for an forthcoming Chanel campaign, he didn't even have to say anything to keep us amused. Simply by donning a bottle green tweed jacket in place of his habitual black created a stir.

He once told US Harper’s Bazaar about his personal ‘uniform’ of black, saying, '[It] is actually two looks – a special jacket with tails made by Dior, but not what you wear for weddings… Then I have another jacket I love from the new Dior men's collection.’

He also made sure to clarify, ‘I bought five of [the jacket] so people think I wear the same thing every day, but in fact it's never the same thing.’

If you look a little longer at this new picture, you’ll notice that the new colour is not all. Karl’s tie-pin is a giant bumblebee rendered in gold. Is he trying to tell us something? Save the bees? It’s not easy being green? It would certainly tie in with the eco-friendly renewable energy source showcased at his show earlier this month, if it was.
