A Paris Fashion Week feud between Cathy Horyn, the fashion critic of the New York Times, and Hedi Slimane, newly installed at Saint Laurent - has gone public.

Horyn was not invited to the inaugural Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent show this week, but posted her catwalk report on the NYT blog, based on images of the show she had seen.

She also aired her view of her longer-term falling out with Slimane, which – she says – arises from an unflattering comparison of the designer to his contemporary Raf Simons, in a profile written in 2004.

Slimane’s riposte to this review was to tweet an open letter to the critic. Headed ‘My Own Times’ he described Miss Horyn as a ‘a schoolyard bully and also a little bit of a stand-up comedian’. He concluded: ‘As far as I’m concerned, she will never get a seat at Saint Laurent’.

WWD subsequently contacted Horyn for her reaction to the tweet. She told the paper, ‘It’s just silly nonsense to me.’
