The lid was closed on another London Fashion Week season last night as Samantha Cameron and outgoing Chairman of the British Fashion Council Harold Tillman hosted a drinks reception for designers, patrons and press.
Samantha Cameron, wearing Stella McCartney, praised Tillmans 5 years of dedication to the British fashion industry before congratulating those involved on how beautifully organised, creatively exciting and commercially relevant London Fashion Week has become, pledging to ensure deserved prominence in the global market.
The event also served to welcome new British Fashion Council chair Natalie Massenet, founder of Net a Porter, who takes up the position from January 2013. This is a tremendous honour and one that I take incredible seriously she said, this past fashion week was breathtaking. Everybody said that this was the best British fashion week we have ever had. Im going to apply some of the principles that I apply to my own team: to exceed expectations, to be the best and to lead not to follow. Lets do that together.
The direct value of the British fashion industry to the UK economy is £21 billion and it employs over 800,000 people. International press and buyers attended from over 42 countries.
