Y-3 celebrated its ten-year collaboration between Adidas and designer with David Beckham in attendance.

Fresh from supporting his wife Victoria earlier in the day, the footballer changed from a sharp suit into faded denim and – no surprise – green three-stripe trainers to sit front row.

“Adidas has supported me throughout my career and I feel I’m part of the family,” David said. “I really appreciate the fact that a sports company had the vision to team up with a designer like Yohji a decade ago. Y-3 is a perfect fusion of the two and absolutely pioneering.”

That vision was perfectly displayed in a fast-paced show that offered plenty of signature Yohji-isms – a black linen pyjama suit, three stripes sewn in white thread down one shoulder, say, or cropped black trousers with wide turn-ups – but also really great fashion-influenced sportswear. Wedge trainers, raffia baseball caps, sheer bomber jackets, mesh sandals: there was plenty to take away, even for those without Beckham’s passion for exercise.

Happy birthday, Y-3. We're celebrating.
