The American designer, who is synonymous with the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign, has made a 'multi-million dollar' donation to London's Royal Marsden Hospital - the biggest cancer facility in Europe.

The 6,383-square foot Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research is set to open its doors in 2015.

'England is very important for me, I’ve been here for years. It’s a place I love, so it was a natural thing. And the Royal Marsden is major,' Lauren told WWD.

'We’ve become a more international brand and company, and so I think more internationally now.'

His generosity will be feted with a gala dinner at Windsor Castle tonight.
